Today’s observation was intense, unsettling—and deeply moving.
One of the most dramatic moments came with the KiF7 family (around 4 days old). One tiny duckling wandered off, only to be bitten by another duck returning from chasing off rivals! The bite wasn’t out of predatory aggression but was a harsh lesson in territorial disputes. The little duckling, frightened and alone, wandered aimlessly for a while before falling asleep by itself—a painfully raw look at the vulnerable side of wild life.
But it wasn’t all sad. Eventually, after much searching, the lost duckling reunited with its family. The relief was palpable. Watching the mother duck dart back and forth to herd her seven ducklings in the wind and rain made clear just how exhausting parenthood in the wild can be.
Other surprises awaited us:

New family QuF5 (about 5 days old) appeared, first spotted with the ducklings abandoned and crying in the reeds until their mother flew in and located them.

Mf1 (47 days old) showed classic older-juvenile behavior, the young duck driving off rival ducks but deferring to smaller broods.

Df捨4 (approx. 59 days old) was seen fighting for territory, even intimidating other ducks near the weir.

Tf8 (39 days old) was all present and accounted for despite the pouring rain, with adorable wake-up wing-flaps.

Hf2 was rediscovered after a long absence, showing off healthy plumage despite the typhoon winds.

Sparrows were spotted gathering duck feathers for nests, their chicks begging for food they wouldn’t get.

Wild Rose-ringed Parakeets fed in the rain, adding tropical color to the gray day.
What made today special was seeing just how hard mother ducks work. Sometimes they fiercely attack other ducks that come too close. Sometimes they fly off to forage, leaving the ducklings huddled in a "water mochi" ball, waiting in the drizzle. And sometimes they race back the moment they hear a chick’s panicked call.
Nature doesn’t always deliver neat, happy stories. Today was full of fear, aggression, confusion—and reunion. Watching these families fight to stay together, even in stormy winds, was a raw but beautiful reminder of the reality of life on the river.
今日の観察は、衝撃と不安、そして感動に満ちた一日でした。
最も緊張感があったのは、**キf7（生後4日目頃）**の親子。小さなヒナがふらりと離れてしまい、なんと他のカモに噛まれてしまうという場面に遭遇。相手は縄張りを守るために戻ってきたカモで、決して捕食目的ではなく、まさに自然界の厳しいルールを突きつけられる瞬間でした。迷子のヒナはしばらく一人で彷徨い、最後はひとり寂しく寝てしまう姿が切なかったです。
でも、物語はそれで終わりませんでした。母カモが何度も行ったり来たりしながら探し、最終的にこのヒナと再会。再び7羽揃った姿を見たときの安心感は格別でした。風と雨の中、母カモが必死にヒナたちを誘導し、時に飛んで田んぼへ行ったり戻ってきたりする様子から、野生の子育ての大変さがひしひしと伝わってきました。

**新しい親子クf5（生後5日目頃）**が登場。最初は母がいなくて鳴きながら茂みに隠れていたヒナたちが、母カモが飛来して必死に探し、無事に再会できた場面は胸を打ちました。

**Mf1（47日目）**は他のカモを追い払うしっかり者。でも、小さなヒナ連れの母には遠慮する姿が印象的でした。

**Df捨4（約59日目）**は堰下で他のカモを威嚇し、強風の中で大きな羽ばたきを見せてくれました。

**Tf8（39日目）**は雨の中でも8羽全員が無事で、寝起きの羽ばたきが可愛かったです。

Hf2は久しぶりに再会でき、立派な羽を風になびかせていました。

スズメ親子がカモの羽を巣材に集め、幼鳥は必死にエサをねだっていましたが、もらえずにいました。

雨の中でも活動するワカケホンセイインコの群れが、逆さにぶら下がったりとインコらしい動きを見せ、鮮やかな色が灰色の空を彩ってくれました。
今日は、迷子のヒナが噛まれるという自然界の厳しい現実を見せつけられる一方で、母カモの必死の捜索と再会、他の親子の穏やかな寝顔、突然の置き去りとそれを乗り越えるヒナたちのたくましさなど、本当に様々なドラマを観察できました。
どんなに厳しい場面も、最後は「生き抜く」という強い意志が感じられるカルガモ親子たちの姿に、改めて心を動かされました。
