Duck Family 0716F⚠次々に捕食される雛【閲覧注意】母とも出会えず生き残った1羽が奇跡の雛混ぜ成功

Today’s observation was one of the hardest yet most unforgettable.
KiF7 family (about 5 days old) experienced a heartbreaking ordeal. Four tiny ducklings were left behind by their mother, hiding in the reeds, waiting for her to return. As rain fell steadily, the vulnerable chicks split up, wandering through the riverside maze.
Then, tragedy struck. Twice, in rapid succession, I recorded the shocking moment of ducklings being eaten by predators. It was so fast I barely understood what happened while filming. Safe, sandy spots suddenly turned into deadly hunting grounds. The survivors trembled and regrouped, their numbers shrinking from four to three to two to one.
Their desperate attempts to reunite with their mother were painful to watch. At one moment, the lost chick even ran toward a completely different mother (Of2) trying to blend in—only to be chased off gently. Later, when KiF mother returned with three of her own, the last lost duckling was close enough to see them—but neither side realized it, missing their chance at reunion.
Yet, this harsh story ended with an unlikely moment of hope.
Near the end of the day, KeF2 (approx. 5 days old), a brand new family, appeared in the flooded reeds. The lone KiF duckling was nearby, running in panic as other adults threatened it. But then—miracle! It slipped in among KeF2’s own ducklings and was accepted. The size was so similar I could barely tell them apart on camera. It was a stunning example of “brood mixing” in the wild: a survival strategy born of loss and need.
Other dramatic scenes today included:

Ef6 (59 days old) returning unexpectedly to the lower river after weeks away—an emotional reunion and likely a farewell.

Yf3 proving once again it’s a “phantom” family, elusive and living in the rice paddies, climbing stairs to vanish into fields.

Tf8 (40 days old) exploring the lower river for the first time, with a worried mother attacking rivals, then guiding her brood to safety.

Uf1 attempting to navigate the floodgates, learning the river’s toughest obstacles.

CoF3 (about 2 days old) appearing out of nowhere—a brand new family with squeaking babies.
It was a day of stark contrasts: brutal predation, frantic searches, and tender, improbable adoptions. Even after years of watching these ducks, I’m humbled by the raw reality of life on the river.

今日の観察は、これまでで最も辛く、しかし忘れられない日となりました。
**キf7（生後5日目頃）**の親子に起きた出来事はあまりに過酷でした。母カモに置き去りにされ、雨の中で小さなヒナ4羽が必死に隠れて母を待ち続けました。しかし、雨で増水し、視界の悪い茂みの中でヒナたちは分かれてしまい、行方を見失いました。
その後、予想もしなかった悲劇が起こりました。
撮影中、ヒナが捕食者に襲われて食べられてしまう瞬間を2度も記録してしまったのです。安全だと思っていた砂浜のような場所が、一瞬で死の現場に変わりました。
生き残ったヒナは震えながら合流しようとし、数は4羽から3羽、2羽、そして最後は1羽にまで減っていきました。
何度も母を探し、お互いに近くまで来ても気付けずすれ違う姿が痛ましかったです。
1羽になった迷子ヒナは、他の母カモ（Of2）を自分の母と間違えて追いかける場面もありました。強く攻撃されはしませんでしたが、結局追い払われ、また孤独に。
けれど、この物語には奇跡の瞬間もありました。
最後に出会った**ケf2（生後5日目頃）**という新しい親子のもとに、逃げ場を失ったキf迷子の1羽が滑り込むように混ざったのです。
サイズも似ていて、母カモも自分の子のように受け入れたように見えました。
「雛混ぜ」という、自然界ならではの必死の生存戦略をまさに目撃した瞬間でした。
他にも今日のドラマは盛り沢山でした。

**Ef6（59日目）**が下流に戻ってきたのは感動的でした。池から川への「引っ越し」をずっと見てきただけに、まるで別れの挨拶のようで胸に迫るものがありました。

Yf3は相変わらず神出鬼没で田んぼへ上がる階段を使うなど、普段見られない動きも記録できました。

**Tf8（40日目）**が初めて下流に降りてきたのも驚きでした。心配になるくらい攻撃的な母の行動も見られました。

Uf1が水門を登ろうと奮闘する姿も印象的でした。

そして帰り際に見つけた**コf3（生後2日目ほど）**という新たな親子まで…。
今日は、「生きる」ということの厳しさと、どうにかして命を繋ごうとする姿をこれでもかと見せつけられる一日でした。
捕食という残酷な現実と、偶然に近い形で起きた「雛混ぜ」という小さな奇跡。
自然のままを記録することで、私自身も改めて命の重さを考えさせられました。
