Today on the river was full of surprises, laughter, and classic duck drama!
The big highlight? The Ef5 family (19 days old) put on an amazing show. The ducklings found a fish, immediately started fighting over it, only for Mom to sweep in and gulp it down herself! The perfect "opportunist’s win"—a real “fisherman’s profit” moment that had me laughing.
The Ef5 ducklings were also showing off their growing bravery: jumping from ledges into the water, diving, and even clambering onto banks in adorable hops. One duckling obsessed over a wall, showing true persistence until it got its way—an endearing scene of determination.
They also foraged calmly in the shallows, likely hunting shrimp, while their mother kept watch. Watching them submerge their heads and sometimes their whole bodies was hilarious, and it’s striking how much these behaviors develop even at this young age.
Meanwhile, I searched for the Sf9 family without luck, but unexpectedly rediscovered Pf2 (42 days old) far upstream. They had been missing for days and were thought to have moved downriver, so finding them was a surprise. Their ducklings handled challenging slopes with ease, showing their age in their growing confidence.
I also encountered Ff6 (55 days) curled up sleeping together on the bank with no sign of Mom nearby—a sign of their independence?
Df5 (57 days) also returned to their old stomping grounds, their feathers now impressive and mature.
Elsewhere, If4 (41 days) and Lf4 (45 days) were crossing rivers, lounging under bridges, and showing their own growing boldness, while Cf3 (62 days) was blending into bigger duck groups, perhaps as territorial instincts mellow.
Beyond the ducks, there were other fun wildlife moments:

Dense stands of tiger lilies adding color.

A juvenile Grey Wagtail preening its muted plumage.

Golden and black koi relaxing below the dam.

A kingfisher bathing and preening.

Sparrows enjoying quick dips in the water.
It was a day of lively summer energy on the river, full of little surprises that remind you how much personality and drama wildlife can have—even (or especially!) in the everyday.
今日の川辺は、笑いと驚きが詰まったカルガモ親子のドラマでいっぱいでした。
最大のハイライトは、**エf5（生後19日目）**の親子。ヒナたちが魚を見つけて奪い合い、結局母カモがすべてを終わらせて自分で食べてしまうという「漁夫の利」そのもののシーンでした。思わず笑ってしまう光景でしたね。
エf5のヒナたちは他にも、段差から水へダイブしたり、岸へ上陸する際に可愛くジャンプしたりと、成長を感じさせる動きをたくさん見せてくれました。壁に夢中になって何度も挑戦するヒナもいて、その粘り強さが微笑ましかったです。
浅瀬では母子で採餌をしていて、エビを狙っている様子も観察。頭を水に突っ込んで潜るような仕草が面白く、まだ幼いのにしっかりと食べ物を探す姿に成長を感じました。
一方で、行方がわからなかったSf9を探して上流へ歩くと、なんと**Pf2（生後42日目）**の親子を久々に発見！下流に移動したと思っていたので、まさかの上流再会に驚きました。ヒナたちは段差も軽々と越えるようになり、成長ぶりを実感しました。
**Ff6（生後55日目）**は母カモがいない状態で子カモたちだけで固まってお昼寝。自立の兆しかもしれません。
**Df5（生後57日目）**も、以前使っていたエリアに戻ってきていました。羽が立派に育ち、成熟を感じさせます。
他にも、**イf4（41日目）とLf4（45日目）**が川を横断したり、橋の下で涼んだり、自由に行動する様子が印象的でした。**Cf3（62日目）**は他のカモたちの群れに紛れていて、縄張り意識が和らいだのかもしれません。
さらに、川辺には色鮮やかなオニユリが群生していたり、キセキレイの幼鳥が羽繕いをしたり、段差下で金色や黒色の鯉がまったりと過ごしていたりと、他の生き物たちもそれぞれの夏を楽しんでいました。
カワセミが水浴びをして、羽を乾かす様子や、スズメが水浴びをする可愛い姿も観察でき、賑やかな夏の川の魅力をたっぷり感じた一日でした。
母カモが「漁夫の利」で魚を奪う場面には笑ってしまいましたが、こうした親子のやり取りや、ヒナたちの成長を感じる瞬間が本当に愛おしいですね。
