Today’s observation was a rollercoaster of emotions.

What began as a search for a lost duckling led me into a day filled with unexpected behavior, anxious moments, and small but precious miracles.

From Mf1’s duckling boldly leading its mother over obstacles, to Af13’s mother tirelessly seeking her scattered family, and Tf8’s one “sleepyhead” duckling crying to reunite, this day perfectly captured the unpredictability of life in the wild.

Df捨4 (~46 Days Old): Found Together

Reassuring to see all four “orphan” ducklings together.
Despite being from different parents (including one likely from Hf), they’ve formed a tight-knit, adopted sibling group.

Cf3 (51 Days) & Mf1 (34 Days): Independent Spirits

  • Cf3 dozing scattered along the river.

  • Mf1’s duckling was fearless, swimming among giant koi.

⭐ Highlight:
When startled, Mf1 mother rushed to her duckling.
The duckling then led her up and down the weir’s block pools—the chick was literally guiding the parent!

Af13 (54 Days): Big Family Adventures

All 13 ducklings present!

⭐ Highlights:

  • Climbing unusual concrete blocks—shot from rare close angles.

  • One duckling strayed and was left behind, prompting Af13’s mother to fly upriver repeatedly, scanning known sleeping sites, and eventually reuniting with her brood.

Lost Ducklings: Stressful Search

  • Heard high-pitched, lost duckling calls, but couldn’t spot them.

  • Later found one running along a wall and jumping off, possibly after being chased by well-meaning people trying to catch it.

  • These moments underscored how human “help” can accidentally split families.

Another Mystery Orphan

Found a solo, younger duckling with no parent in sight.
Likely an unrecorded “orphan” (Of2, Qf1, or Rf1 candidates), resting at a known spot for strays.

Bf捨1 (51 Days): Calm but Hard to Find

Spotted eventually, calmly resting.

Tf8 (24 Days): The Sleepyhead Drama

  • Spotted under a bridge with another family.

  • One Tf8 duckling slept too long and was left behind!

  • It cried loudly, bringing Tf mother back for a touching reunion.

  • But even after regrouping, the family kept scattering, making photography frustratingly difficult.

⭐ Tf Mother even napped mid-current, while her ducklings explored—unexpected and funny.

Other Encounters

  • Sparrows cautiously bathing in the shallows.

  • Unidentified mother duck sleeping alone nearby.

  • A moment of reflection on how tough it is to choose what to film when multiple families need attention.

💭 Final Thoughts

This was one of those days that felt overwhelming and emotionally draining.

Between chasing lost calls, recording dramatic family reunions, and seeing how human interference can both help and hurt, it was a stark reminder that nature isn’t tidy or predictable.

And yet, seeing Mf1’s duckling lead its mother, or Af13’s mother finally reunite with her young, were beautiful, hopeful moments that made it all worthwhile.

4羽全員が揃っていて安心。
Hf組のヒナも混ざっている異母兄弟ですが、ずっと一緒に行動していて胸が温かくなります。

Cf3（51日）、Mf1（34日）：自由なヒナたち

  • Cf3はまばらにお昼寝。

  • Mf1のヒナは大きな鯉の間でも平気で泳ぎ回る。

驚いて母を呼ぶ姿や、ブロックプールを楽しむ姿。
さらには堰を上る時に母が飛んで追いかけるという、まさにヒナが母をリードする行動を記録できました。

Af13（54日）：大家族の奮闘と再会

  • 13羽揃っていることを確認。

  • 四角いブロックを登る姿も普段と違うアングルで撮影成功。

  • 途中で1羽が取り残され、母が何度も飛び回りながら探す姿を撮影。
    最終的に再会するシーンは感動的でした。

迷子のヒナたち：苦しい捜索

  • 高い声で鳴く幼いヒナを声だけで確認するも姿を見つけられず。

  • その後、壁の上を走っていたヒナが飛び降りる瞬間を撮影。
    人に追われて登った可能性が高く、善意が分断を招く複雑さを感じました。

川下でも別の迷子の声。
ウf母らしきカモも見つけたのに、結局見失い置き去りにされた可能性も考えられ、モヤモヤが残りました。

Bf捨1（51日）と謎の単独ヒナ

  • Bf捨1も再発見。

  • さらに、母なしで1羽だけいるヒナも発見。
    Of2、Qf1、Rf1のどれかの可能性が高いものの、特定できず。

Tf8（24日）：寝坊助と散らばる家族

  • 橋の下で他の親子と一緒に発見。

  • 1羽だけ寝坊して取り残され、必死に鳴いて母が迎えに来る感動シーン。

  • その後もバラバラに散らばり、まとまった写真がなかなか撮れず苦戦。

  • Tf母が急流の途中でお昼寝するという驚きの行動も。

その他の発見

  • スズメの恐る恐るの水浴びに癒やされる。

  • 周辺で寝ていた母カモらしき個体。

  • どの親子を追うかの選択で後悔が残るシーンも多かった。

💭 最後に

今日は心が折れそうになるほどモヤモヤした一日でした。

迷子の捜索、母とヒナの予測不能な行動、人の介入が絡む複雑な状況…。
でも、その中で 母カモが飛んで探し続ける姿や、ヒナが母を先導する瞬間、寝坊助の必死の鳴き声と再会など、忘れたくない貴重なシーンもたくさんありました。
