On July 18, 2025, something miraculous unfolded on the riverbank: a duckling that had once gone missing found its way back to its original family. This incredible reunion, after days of separation and survival, became the heart of today’s field recording.
The footage, shot with a super-zoom compact camera, captures various wild duck families, each facing their own challenges. Let’s walk through the highlights of this observational journey, family by family.
🟡 Lf4-50 – Blending in Peacefully
The Lf4 family, with four 50-day-old ducklings, blended into a large duck crowd without conflict. Identifying the Lf mother among the flock would be a challenge for even the most seasoned observers, but such rare moments make field watching rewarding.
🟡 Ke f2-7 – A Duckling Leads the Way
Back at the small sluice gate, the Ke f2 family (7-day-old ducklings) continued their adventure. One brave duckling insisted on jumping down a step, guiding the hesitant mother. In the end, the duckling won, and the mother followed. The slow swim that followed was a rare, peaceful moment.
🟡 Of2-47 & Mf1-50 – Growing Strong
Near the weir, the Of2 and Mf1 families showed steady development. The Mf mother suddenly flew away, prompting her ducklings to dash after her—another glimpse into their strong bond and instincts.
🟡 Ki f4-7 – A Double Miracle
This day’s emotional highlight came from the Ki f4 family. Previously, one duckling had been separated and mixed into the Ke f family after several siblings were lost to predation. Now, all four ducklings were reunited with their real mother. Their peaceful nap and gentle grooming reflected the safety and stability they had reclaimed. It was a double miracle: surviving alone and finding their way back home.
Even as their mother temporarily left them alone, the ducklings waited patiently. One showed a strange gagging motion, reminiscent of kingfishers regurgitating pellets—an intriguing behavior.
🟡 Young Ducks & Changing Territories
Several young ducks, possibly from the Af, Ef, Ff, or Gf families, were spotted resting in the area where predation had occurred days earlier. While some ducklings behaved cautiously, others returned to the same spots, perhaps unaware of the past dangers.

🌤️ Final Thoughts
This day brought clarity to one of the biggest mysteries: the fate of the missing Ki f duckling. Its safe return to its true family was nothing short of miraculous. Meanwhile, other families such as Ku f5 and Ko f3 were not seen, likely moving downstream due to space pressure from larger families like Tf8.
As the duckling season progresses rapidly, the territories shift and so do family dynamics. Despite the sadness of past losses, today reaffirmed the resilience of these birds. Tomorrow, I hope to explore upstream and maybe reconnect with more families—Ef5, Xf5, or even the elusive Ff6 and Gf7. There’s always more to witness in the quiet world of wild ducks.
2025年7月18日、川辺で奇跡のような出来事が起きました。
迷子になっていた1羽のヒナが、数日ぶりに本来の家族と再会したのです。悲劇を乗り越え、偶然に助けられ、そして絆に導かれて…感動的な瞬間でした。
この日は、超望遠コンデジで撮影した観察映像を通じて、複数のカルガモ親子のリアルな姿を記録しました。ここでは、観察の流れに沿って、家族ごとにご紹介します。
🟡 Lf4-50 – 群れの中で穏やかな時間
Lf4の親子（生後50日・ヒナ4羽）は、大きな群れに自然と溶け込んでいました。Lf母を見分けられたら観察上級者。レアでマニア向けのシーンでした。
🟡 ケf2-7 – 雛が先導して段差ジャンプ！
小水門で観察を続けるケf組（生後7日目）。この日、ヒナが段差を降りたがり、母カモを先導。最後はヒナが勝利し、母も後に続きました。その後、ゆっくり泳ぐ様子も非常に珍しく、心に残る場面でした。
🟡 Of2-47・Mf1-50 – 成長を続ける姿
堰下ではOf2とMf1の親子が無事確認されました。Mf母が飛び立つと、子ガモたちが慌てて追う姿もあり、家族の絆を感じる場面でした。
🟡 キf4-7 – 2つの奇跡を経て再会
この日の観察で一番感動的だったのが、キf組の再会です。数日前、迷子になって他の親子に混ざっていた1羽のヒナが、元の家族へと戻れていたのです。4羽そろって小島で昼寝する姿、羽繕いする仕草に、再会の喜びがにじんでいました。
その後、母が一時飛び去っても、ヒナたちは落ち着いて待っていました。中には、ペリットを吐くような不思議な動きを見せたヒナも…。
🟡 若ガモたちの姿と変わる行動範囲
以前、捕食された場所にも若ガモたちが戻ってきていました。Af組の可能性が高いものの、Ef、Ff、Gfの可能性も。当時気づかなかったが、母カモも映っており、換羽による模様の変化が観察の難しさを増していました。

🌤️ まとめに
一番気になっていたキf組のヒナが、無事に家族と再会していたことが分かり、心から嬉しい一日でした。
迷子になり、別の親子に混ざり、それでも本当の母の元に帰れたという、2つの奇跡。命の厳しさと温かさの両方を感じる記録となりました。
一方で、クf5とコf3にはこの日も出会えず、下流に移動したと考えています。急増した新しい親子たちの影響で、行動範囲が日々変化しているのを実感しました。
明日は上流を探す予定。Ef5やXf5、可能ならFf6、Gf7、Df5にも会えたらと願っています。余裕があれば、池のバン親子にも…。
見守り隊の方々が体調を崩していると聞き、自然観察の持続の難しさも感じました。
