40 Days Apart: Comparing Ducklings Climbing the Same Bank!”

Duck Family 0706F – Observation Log (July 6, 2025)


Today’s observation was all about growth. From 12-day-old tiny ducklings to nearly adult 55-day-old ones, we watched them all using the same riverbank slope in their own ways.

It was a rare chance to directly compare their development, with each family showing unique behaviors and challenges.

🦆 Family-by-Family Highlights

✅ Sf9 (30 days old): A Calm Milestone

  • Found relaxing in the pond.

  • Celebrated reaching 30 days of life—congrats!

  • Minimal movement today, so the upstream search continued.

✅ Ff6 (48 days old): Lots of Naps

  • Spotted sleeping again today.

  • They’ve been resting a lot recently.

✅ Ef6 (12 days old): The Youngest Climbers

  • Very active.

  • Ducklings climbed the slope using a small ramp—adorable to see them trying so hard.

✅ Gf7 (52 days old): Finally Active Again

  • Usually just sleeping, but today they got up naturally.

  • Caught them climbing a slope—one duckling was hilariously late!

✅ Af3 (18 days old): Parenting Challenges

  • Ducklings were spread out napping.

  • Mother duck was seen calling them back when they wandered too far—a lovely reminder of the work parenting requires.

✅ Xf5 (26 days old): Balanced Activity

  • Alternated between resting and moving.

  • Had their favorite resting spot all to themselves today.

✅ Ef6 (49 days old) and Pf2 (35 days old): Reunion

  • Finally found Ef6 after days missing.

  • Also spotted Pf2 nearby.

  • The size difference between Ef6 and Pf2 ducklings was very clear.

  • Pf2 mother had to repeatedly coax her chicks to follow her.

✅ Df捨4 (50 days old), Lf4 (37 days old), Mf1 (38 days old): Chill and Unique

  • Df捨4 ducklings all together in the shade—so reassuring.

  • Lf4 known for being hard to track but found today.

  • Mf1’s ducklings followed mom onto the weir top, then lounged there—rare to see them so well-behaved.

✅ Bf捨1 (55 days old): Hard to Tell from Adults

  • At this age, ducklings are almost adult-sized.

  • It’s getting hard to tell them apart from their mothers!

✅ If4 (34 days) and Cf3 (55 days): Relaxing in the Shade

  • Napping under the bridge.

  • Cf3 ducklings are big now—Bf捨1’s age-mates but showing clear growth differences.

✅ Tf8 (30 days old): Another Milestone

  • Found snoozing in the shade.

  • Also hit their 30-day mark—congratulations!

✅ Other Wildlife

  • A solitary Uf father duck seen again.

  • Beautiful shots of a female Kingfisher.

  • Little Egret failed at fishing and flew off.

  • Four Great Cormorants chilling under the bridge.

  • Rock Pigeons taking summer baths.

💭 Observer’s Reflections

It was amazing seeing such a range of ages—12 days to 55 days—all tackling the same riverbank.

Watching Ef6’s tiny ducklings clamber up while Gf7’s nearly full-sized young did the same really drove home just how fast they grow.

Finally finding missing families like Ef6 and Pf2 was rewarding, and I felt proud realizing I’ve tracked 20+ different duck families this season.

I hope the ones I couldn’t find today are safe somewhere downstream. Watching them all grow and thrive is what keeps me coming back.

今日はまさに「成長比較」の一日。
生後12日から55日まで、様々な成長段階のカルガモ親子たちが同じ川の段差を登る姿を観察できました。

一見同じ動作でも、年齢によって全然違う動き方や反応が見られて、とても貴重な比較になりました。

🦆 親子ごとの観察ハイライト

✅ Sf9（生後30日目）：穏やかな節目

  • 池でまったりお昼寝。

  • 30日目の生存をお祝い！

  • あまり動かず、上流側も捜索続行。

✅ Ff6（48日目）：最近はお昼寝多め

  • 今日も寝ている姿を確認。

  • ここ数日よく休んでいる。

✅ エf6（12日目）：最年少のチャレンジャー

  • 活動的で、スロープを使って段差を一生懸命登る姿が可愛い。

✅ Gf7（52日目）：久々の活動シーン

  • いつも寝てばかりだったが、今日は自然に起きて活動。

  • 坂を登る様子も撮影。ヒナ1羽が遅れてくるハプニングも。

✅ アf3（18日目）：子育ての大変さ

  • ばらばらにお昼寝していたヒナたち。

  • 母カモが呼び寄せる仕草が見られ、育児の苦労を実感。

✅ Xf5（26日目）：バランスの良い活動

  • 寝たり起きたりをうまく繰り返し。

  • 人気の寝床を今日は貸し切り状態。

✅ Ef6（49日目）、Pf2（35日目）：嬉しい再会

  • しばらく姿を見なかったEf6を久々に発見。

  • 近くにPf2も。ヒナのサイズ差は歴然。

  • Pf母が雛を連れようと必死に戻ってくる姿も見られた。

✅ Df捨4（50日目）、Lf4（37日目）、Mf1（38日目）：個性的な面々

  • Df捨4は日陰でまったり4羽揃って安心。

  • Lf4は神出鬼没だが今日は遭遇できた。

  • Mf1は堰の上で母とまったり。ヒナが母についていく貴重なシーンも。

✅ Bf捨1（55日目）：見分け困難な大きさに

  • そろそろ母カモと区別がつかなくなってきた。

  • 餌や群れの有無で成長に差があることを改めて実感。

✅ イf4（34日目）、Cf3（55日目）：木陰で避暑

  • 橋の下でお昼寝中。

  • Cf3は立派に成長。イf4も急に大人っぽく。

✅ Tf8（30日目）：おめでとう30日！

  • 木陰でお昼寝。活動範囲が広がってきた。

✅ その他の出会い

  • Uf父をまた1羽で確認。

  • かわいいカワセミ♀が様々な角度から撮影に応じてくれた。

  • コサギが捕食失敗で飛び去る姿も。

  • カワウ4羽が橋の影で休憩。

  • カワラバトの水浴びが増える季節に。

💭 観察者の想い

今日は特に「成長段階の比較」がテーマのような一日。
12日目のエf6の小さなヒナたちと、同じ坂を登る52日目のGf7を見比べると、たった40日程度でこんなに変わるのかと生命の力を実感しました。

Ef6やPf2にも久しぶりに会え、追えている親子はほぼ把握できたのが嬉しかったです。
20組以上を同時に把握できている自分を少し褒めたい気分。

見なくなった子たちもどこかで元気にしていてほしい。
これからも、彼らの成長を見守り続けたいと思います。
