Today’s outing took me farther downstream than usual—about 4 km of walking, hoping to check on families that had moved that way after recent rains.
Highlights included seeing Af13’s big “50 days old” milestone with some ducklings practicing their first “flights,” mysterious new ducklings in Ef4’s brood, peaceful encounters between small families, and the surprise discovery of active swallow nests.
While there were no brand-new families found, it was a deeply rewarding day of careful watching, recording small behaviors, and reconnecting with old friends along the river.

Af13’s ducklings turned 50 days old today—fully feathered but not yet airborne.
I watched them descend a weir with flapping wings, like they were testing their first flight.
They also crossed near Mf1’s resting spot, a big family calmly moving through shared space.
Bf捨1 (47 Days Old): Back in a Familiar Spot
Returned to the old weir zone, making them easy to find.
Had a quiet encounter with Mf1—two lone ducklings with very different stories.
Mf1 (30 Days Old): Leading the Way
Celebrated 30 days old.
The duckling boldly led its mother down the weir after a brief hesitation—a charming moment.
They also shared territory with Af13 and Bf捨1 peacefully.
Hf2 (38 Days Old): Feeding with Birds Singing
Spotted them feeding while a bush warbler sang nearby.
Ran into them again on the way back.

First sighting in 3 days!
This family was washed downstream during rain, so seeing them back was exciting.

No new families, but full of small joys and surprises: flight practice, new duckling counts, peaceful multi-family zones, and nesting swallows.

今日は普段よりも下流側をたっぷり4kmほど歩いて、雨の後に移動していた親子たちを探しました。

ヒナが1羽はぐれて呼ぶと母が飛んで駆け寄るも、別の2羽がまた脱走。
この年頃の難しさを感じます。
Uf1（18日）：よく会える安心の親子
最近はほぼ毎回確認できる、安心の常連。
Df捨4（42日）：全員無事
ヒナ4羽がしっかり揃っていて一安心。

遠目でも元気そうな様子を確認。

昨夜の雨で上流の草が倒れていたけれど、家族は無事そうでした。

深い茂みにいて長時間待つも撮影できず。

全員確認できました。

昨日まで4羽だったのに今日は5羽に増加。
今年一番の謎かもしれませんが、素直に嬉しい発見。
